Roy B. Doty, Indianapolis, formerly of Monroe County, a former chief machinist with the U.S. Navy and retired security guard, died Thursday in Winona Memorial Hospital.

He served 27 years in the Navy, including World Wars I and II and retired as chief machinist in 1945.

For three years he was a security guard at the Glendale Branch of Merchants National Bank. He retired in 1968.

A native of Center Point, Iowa, he was a member of East 38th Christian Church, Mystic Circle Masonic Lodge 685, Mystic Circle Senior Citizens Club, Indiana Society of Mayflower Descendants and American Legion Post 18 at Bloomington.

He was a charter member of both Indiana Association of Retired Officers and Bloomington-Area Retired Officers Association.

He received the first Third Award of Merit issued by the National Association of Retired Officers for his service as regional field representative in Indiana.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Harry W. Moore Arlington Chapel, where friends may call after 5 p.m. Saturday.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Eva Emery Doty.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shrine Cripple Children's Fund, Crossroads Rehabilitation Center of the American Heart Association.

Funeral services for Roy Doty, formerly of Monroe County, who died in Indianapolis Thursday will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Harry W. Moore Arlington Chapel. Burial will be in Clear Creek Cemetery in Monroe County. Friends May call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.
