George Bowman, a prominent merchant of Concordia, Kansas was born December 26, 1882, at Logan, Kansas. He passed away at his home in Concordia on Friday, May 12, 1944 at the age of 61. He was the son of Andrew Jackson and Elizabeth Dellenbach Bowman.
George spent the early years of his life in Logan, engaged in the grain and implement business. In 1919 he came to Concordia and organized the Bowman Seed Company - well known, to those engaged in this type of business throughout the United States and in foreign countries as well.
George was married to Bertha Ann Duncan on June 30, 1909. To this union were born four sons: Jack of Concordia; George, Jr., of Lancaster, CA; W.R. (commonly known as Billie) now ensign in the foreign duty with the US Navy Air Corps; and James, the youngest son, who was struck by an automobile while on his way to school and passed away December 26, 1931.
George filled an active part in the civic life of his community until he was afflicted with a paralytic stroke four years ago last April.
He is survived by his wife, Bertha; three sons, Jack, Junior and Billie; three grandchildren; a brother, J.H. Bowman of Fort Collins, Colorado and two sisters: Mrs. F. H. Bashford of Pasadena, CA and Mrs. Edward Hood of Greenleaf, KS.
