Harry Douglas Jobes [Doug], son of Samuel Shelby Jobes [Sam] and Nancy Ann Allen "Annie", Born, 3 Jul 1880, in Kimble Co., TX. Died, 16 Jul 1964, in Kerr Co., TX. Burial in Junction, TX Cemetery. Occupation: Rancher.

Doug Jobes was a typical "Hardnosed" West-Texas Rancher, he "cussed" and rode his horse as the "Boss". He had several Ranches at different times in Kimble Co and was a Sheep and Goat Trader. His last Ranch was acquired by his
son Noble where they both lived. Subsiquently his grandson John F. Jobes bought the ranch. The earlier Old Jobes Homestead, near Segovia, is remembered by R. G. "Toby" Jobes as a rustic frame raised building around a stone house, with outdoor plumbing, no electricity, wind-mill and rock watertank, lots and lots of rocks, way out from town, and a steep rock hill to the house - this was home but a tough place to live by todays standards. "Grandpa" Jobes was very dominating and his demanding personality is recognized in succeeding generations.

In late life H D Jobes Sr developed memory instability and was hospitalized in Kerrville where he died in 1964. His estate was Probated in Kimble, #805, Vol 10, and divided between his living 8 children.

HD Jr tells the story about his dad purchasing his first Model "T" Ford: he had his son Roquey drive it home before he would get in it ... then he would go riding around the place as a passanger with his foot outside on the running
board so he could jump out ... just in case!

His grandson John loved to go hunting at grand-pa's last ranch and once Doug Jobes took him for a poacher - was ready to shoot John - John kept hollaring "it's your grandson John, don't shoot" and Doug replied "you ain't my
grandson" - somehow John convinced him - this story continues to be told when Jobes meet. Some how or other the tide turned, years later, when John cought his nephews (Rusty & Tommy) on his place and almost shot them before they were
recognized.

Doug Jobes married, first, Georgia Ann Miller, daughter of
John Alexander Miller and Martha Ann Drady Browning "Mat"
