Catharine was the daughter of John Carl and Christina SAUBERT, who were from Bavaria. Most censuses indicate that Catharine was born in Bavaria.

Catharine arrived in the USA as a very young girl sometime between 1843 and 1845.

She married Joshua S. GROVES in Vernon Co., Wisconsin, on 5 May 1861.

After marrying Joshua, they resided at Liberty, Vernon Co., Wisconsin, where they were enumerated in US Censuses in 1870, 1880, 1900, and in the State census of 1905, when she resided with her son William Clark GROVES.

Sometime before 1910, Catharine, a widow, moved into the town of Viroqua, where she remained and was enumerated in US Censuses in 1910, 1920, and 1930, when she resided with her daughter, Mary A. STOLL and her family.

Celebrates 80th Birthday
Mrs. Catherine Groves celebrated her 80th birthday last Saturday. Or rather her children did it for her, for they gathered at the Stoll home and gave her the surprise of her life. They enjoyed a real picnic dinner and a blessed time together. Ida and Clara Huschka, Mate Stoll and Will, Hobe and George Groves are six children who never forget to remember mother. RELATIVES, FRIENDS HONOR AGED VIROQUA WOMAN ON BIRTHDAY
VIROQUA, Wis.—(Special)—To observe the 90th birthday anniversary of Mrs. Kathryn Groves, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren assembled at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Groves Thursday. The four children of Mrs. Groves are William, Hobart, and George Groves, and Mrs. Clara Huschka, all of this vicinity. There are eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Mrs. Groves came from Germany in America with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Saubert, when but three years of age. After living at Jefferson for a time they purchased a farm in the Kickapoo Valley.
For three quarters of a century Mrs. Groves has lived in Vernon county, and for a quarter of a century in the city of Viroqua. Her husband, Joshua Groves, passed away 31 years ago. Two daughters, Mrs. John Huschka and Mrs. John Stoll, have died.
Mrs. Groves is to good health in spite of here advanced years. She possesses a clear memory.
Besides the relatives, who honored the anniversary of Mrs. Groves, friends and acquaintances called at the home to offer congratulations.

4. Charles Hobert "Hobe" (1869-1955); he married Sarah E. "Sadie" DEAVER.
5. Mary Alice "Mate" (1875-1929); she married John E. STOLL.
6. George A. (1881-1974); he married Alberta BUCHANAN.
