Johannes A. Bottger (1917 - 1973)
Johannes A. Bottger, son of Johannes Bottger and Martha nee Kusch, was born in Otter Creek Township, Crawford County, Iowa on January 7, 1917, and died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital on Sunday, January 28, 1973. He lived all his life in the Schleswig community, attending the rural schools and the local high school. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church, and at the time of his death was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig.
He worked on various farms, was employed by the J. R. Coil Company of Ida Grove for six years and with Iowa Beef Processors for the past twelve years.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Olga and Hilda and two brothers Otto and Alfred. He is survived by his brother Raymond of Shell Knob, Missouri and his sister Irmgard Tibbs of Schleswig, and one nephew Thomas Tibbs of Clovis, New Mexico. He attained to 56 years and 21 days.
Funeral services were held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig on Wednesday, January 31, 1973, with Rev. F.A. Wiese officiating. Mrs. Ray Schmidt was the organist. The congregation sang My Faith Looks Up To Thee and the choir sang Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me. Pallbearers were: Chris Sands, Nick Wilken, Ernie Grell, P.J. Moeller, Palmer Peters and Johannes Wilken. Interment was in Morgan Cemetery.
