The Lawrence County, Missouri Marriage Record 1845-1870, page 125, has Maston transcribed as "Preston Canirove" married to Jane (McCray) Gilbreath on February 10, 1855, Elbert E Cooper, Minister of the Gospel.
The 1860 Chesapeake, Turnback TS, Lawrence County, Missouri Census shows Maston Cannon, 27, wife Jane, 35, both born in Tennessee, with the following children: Margaret 5, William T (Thomas), 5, Sarah E, 5 and Richard W, 1. All of the children were born in Missouri.
Jane's parents Thomas and Jane McCray, also living at Chesapeake, MO in 1860, have daughter Jane's children from her first marriage to Thomas Gilbreath living with them. Isabel is 13, and Charles T "Galbraith" is age 10.
During the Civil War Maston joined the Confederate Army, Jackman's Regiment, Missouri Cavalry, Company E as a Private.

Warrant: 27 Feb 1866, to Barry County sheriff, J.P. Raney, indicates an indictment pro?erred by grand jury against Madison Cannon for murder in the first degree; signed John C PRICE, circuit judge. Return: "I, JP RANEY,...cirtify...and placing on him a sufficiant guard and it appearing that the Said Maston Cannon attended to make his escape and the Said guard Jesse BESHERIS shot and killed said Cannon while trying to make his escape this march 2nd 1866. JP RANEY, sheriff; Amos N KELLY, deputy.
Capias: 27 FEB 1866, to sheriff of Bary (sic) county; Maston Cannon; for grand larceny.
