The obituary of Richard Randolph Edwards as published in the February 24, 1944, issue of The Mountain Eagle:

Uncle Dick Edwards Of Hotspot Passes

Richard Randolph Edwards of Hotspot, died last Friday morning at the age of 81. Mr. Edwards suffered a paralytic stroke last July and since that time he had been confined to his bed most of the time. He was born at Zanesville, Ohio, where he attended school and learned the Construction business under the guidance of Mr. T. B. Townsend, one of the leading bridge builders of his day. Uncle Dick came to Hazard, Ky., 32 years ago as one of the builders of the present Perry County Courthouse and later built several of the better buildings of that City. He played an important role in the construction of several of the surrounding coal camps.

On April 7, 1914 he and Diana Amburgey were united in marriage and to this union were born 4 children. Mr. Edwards was a devoted member of the Masonic Lodge. He was one of the best known men in Eastern Kentucky. His winning personality won himself many, many friends.

He is survived by his wife, four sons: Edward of Dearborn, Mich.; John W. in Naval service, Washington, D. C.; Tom also in Naval service now enroute to Whitesburg, and Sgt. Otis E. of Fort Benning, Ga.

Funeral services will be held Friday, 1:00 P.M. at 1st Baptist Church, Whitesburg, Kentucky by Rev. L. O. Griffith. Burial in the Frazier Cemetery, Hotspot, Ky., by Evans Funeral Home.
