June 4, 1957 - Humboldt Independent - Ellas B. Finney, son of Mr and Mrs Chris Finney, was born at Waverly, Iowa, Oct. 11, 1853, and passed away at his home in Humboldt, Iowa, May 24, 1957, at the age of 103 years, 7 months and 13 days.
Mr Finney was engaged in the carpenter trade most of his life and lived many years in the Humboldt area.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara, in 1902 and also by four daughters and two sons.
Surviving him are: two daughters-in-law, Mrs Byron Finney and Mrs Gertrude Finney of Humboldt, a son-in-law, Fred Mayer of Eagle Grove, 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
Although in falling health in his latter years, Mr Finney maintained a keen memory. He was patient and always grateful to family and friends for kindly considerations given to him. Funeral services were held Monday, 27, at 1:30 p.m. at the Bogaard funeral home in Humboldt with the Rev. Frank O. Johnson officiating. Casket bearers were Clayton Foster, Frank Lowder, Henry Hass, Bill Dunscomb, Maurice Lee and Cecil L. Pederson. Sacred selections "Beyond the Sunset" and "Good Nite and Good Morning," were played by Jana Sue Bogaard at the organ. Interment was in the Union cemetary.
