Anna Northrup Betts was born in Salem, New York. Her parents were Nathan and Eunice Northrup of Salem. Anna Northrup married Nathan Betts in Christ Church, Salem, New York where her parents were members of the church. Their marriage is recorded in the New York Genealogical and Biographical Record as "Salem, Westchester, New York on 1773 November 26", and not in Salem in Washington County, NY as has been spread about.

The Betts are in the 1790 Heads of household Census for "West Chester County, Salem twp.. with 2 males and 4 females. One of the males was under 16. There is no age grouping for the females.

Nathan and Anna Betts established one of the first hotels on Stone Road in Brunswick, Rensselaer County, NY. This was the place where the first town meeting was held and the town of Brunswick was erected. The meeting was held on Tuesday, April 7, 1807 at Anna and Nathan's home, 'inn holder'. At that meeting, Nathan was elected one of the overseers of highways. Nathan was a Rev. Soldier pensioneer. According to an ancestry picture, Anna Betts died on 23 September 1829.
