Cecil R. Boyd, 77, 532 W. High St., Portland, died early Saturday morning in the emergency room at Jay County Hospital, following an apparent heart attack.
He was born Sept. 1, 1915, in Floyd County, Virginia, the son of James and Sara Alice (Wade) Boyd. He was married Oct. 12, 1940 to Dessie Rae McKiney, who died March 2, 1990.
Boyd retired in 1978 from Delco Battery of Muncie after 36 years of employment. He worked from 1978 to 1980 with the Portland Water Department and currently was serving as a Democratic Party precinct committeeman in Portland. He served with the Portland Portland Auxiliary for more than 20 years, and he was an avid bowler having bowled on leagues for more than 60 years.
He served with the US Navy during World War II, was a member of the Robert Guy Ayres American Legion Post 211 of Portland the Portland Breakfast Club and attended Trinity United Methodist Church.
He is survived by one son, Roger Lee Boyd, Portland; six sisters, Mrs. Floyd (Icy) Brown, Grace Bisel, Mrs. Leroy (Betty) DeRome, Robert (Sammy) Swhier, all of Portland, Clyde Bisel, New Carlisle, and Mrs. Ray (Barbara) Hudson, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; three brothers, Harold Boyd, South Bend, James L. Boyd, Fort Wayne; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Portland Chapel of the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home with Pastor Kris McPherson officiating. Burial will follow in Salamonia Cemetery.
The Robert Guy Ayres American Legion Post 211 of Portland will conduct military graveside services.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and prior to services Wednesday.
