Ed Waymire, 93, of Delphi, passed away at 5:37 p.m. on Thursday, November 15, 2012, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Ed was born on August 17, 1919 in Buck Creek, Indiana, to the late Nellie E. (Bowen) and John A. Waymire, Sr. He was a 1937 graduate of Buck Creek High School and a graduate of Show Card Lettering School for billboard painting. He served in the Army in WW II in Germany and Austria where he was in the forces that liberated several concentration camps. He was awarded two purple hearts and the bronze star.
He married Mildred E. Sines on January 27, 1940 in South Bend. She preceded him on May 19, 2010. They had been married over 70 years.
Ed enjoyed fishing, walking on the Florida beaches, playing Uncle Sam in the 4th of July parades and also restoring antique cars and attending car shows. He won best of show in the Delphi Car Show in 2010. Ed was a copywrited songwriter, poet, and artist. He was a member of the Delphi American Legion Post 75 and VFW Post 9383.
Ed and his family owned and operated the Penguin restaurant in Delphi, and he and his brother were painting contractors for National Homes, and he had also worked for Moorman Feeds, and retired from Delphi Body Works as the parts manager.
He is survived by daughter, Ginger McCain of Delphi; granddaughters: Nicki McCain of Woodland Hills, California, Shannon O'Donnell of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Lauren Waymire (Eddie Graves) of Delphi; and great granddaughter, Vallerie Waymire of Delphi; and special family members: Dan McCain, Linda Waymire and Lacey Jane McCain. He was preceded by his wife, Millie; sons: Ronald E. and William R. Waymire; and brother, John Waymire, Jr. and sister, Elsie Mae.
Viewing will be at Davidson Funeral Home on Monday, November 19th from 4:00-8:00 p.m. with services at the funeral home in Delphi on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. Family and friends will officiate. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery, Delphi, with military graveside rites by the Delphi & Camden American Legions and Delphi VFW.
