To this union ten (10) children were born: Allie Mae (Cortez Harris), Lelea, Johnny (Ezola Burton), Willie (Rosa Smith & Corrine Rudd), James (Dora Harris), Clearance, Mazella (Hudson Adams), Clara (Charles Sims), William Henry, and Viola (Joseph Parham).
As a young boy growing up, a white lady named Martha Wade, taught him to read and write.
Frank and Janie moved from Granville County to the western part of Wake County around 1916. Later they stayed in Harnett and Chatham Counties before returning to Wake County. They were farmers by occupation. Frank started teaching the musical scale in Granville County and continued when they moved to Wake County. He was a lead choir singer and taught local churches choir music.
