Bill is a 1946 graduate of Father Ryan and was a drummer in their band. He spent two years in Tokyo on occupation duty and was a drummer in the First Cavalry Division Band while there. Bill retired from DuPont Pharmaceuticals in 1994. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
In June, 1999, Bill and Peggy were voted Family of the Year for the Knights of Columbus in the State of Tennessee.
Mr. Bell is preceded in death by his parents, William C. and Helen Bell; and his first wife, Sarah Gunter Bell.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy S. Bell; sister, Martha Langdon; brother, Joseph L. (Carlene) Bell; three step children, Denise Henderson, William Matlock, Michael Matlock; twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1-4pm and again from 5-8pm Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be conducted at 10am Friday at the church with Father Joe McMahon officiating.
Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to Father Ryan High School, St. Joseph Catholic Church, or to Alive Hospice.
