There were two first cousins named John Baty, born about the same time. Unfortunately, whoever did the introductions to online obituaries at Christian County, Missouri, Genealogy confused the two men and the Find a Grave memorials based on those obituaries are mistaken. This John Baty was not the son of Argile Baty and Martha Sandlin and he was not married to Mary Gilmore. The John Baty, who was born 5 March 1857, was the son of Argile's brother George W. Baty, who died during the Civil War. This John Baty, with birth date of 5 March 1857, was listed as George W. Baty's son in George W. Baty's Civil War pension application. Argile Baty's son John Baty was born on 8 May 1856 in Coffee, Tennessee, and died on 28 February 1925 Springfield, Greene, Missouri.
