Harold E. Peters

WILLIAMSPORT - Harold E. Peters, 94, of 16505 Virginia Ave., died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.

Born April 6, 1904, near Appleton, Ohio, he was the son of the late Aubert R. and Hattie Rogers Peters.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois E. Frankman Peters, in 1951.

He was a graduate of Defiance College, Defiance, Ohio.

He was general secretary and later executive director of the Hagerstown YMCA, and previously was with the YMCA in Jamestown, N.Y. He was involved with the U.S.O. and was instrumental in forming the North Street YMCA

He was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church; and had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, was on the Church Council; taught Sunday school and was church treasurer.

He was a charter member of Torch Club; was involved with Hagerstown Kiwanis; on the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army; and involved with community activities.

He is survived by his second wife, Virginia Knode Peters; two sons, H. Edward Peters of Hagerstown and David F. Peters of Richmond, Va.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Grant R. Peters.

Services will be Saturday at 4 p.m. at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Mark A. Sandell and the Rev. David M. Buchenroth will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends following the service.

Memorial donations may be made to Building Fund, YMCA, 149 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.
