Elmer M. Dunn Ellenburg Center ? Elmer M. Dunn, 81, of Route 11, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, at his residence.
He was born in Belmont on Aug. 16, 1920, the son of Edward and Mary (Sears) Dunn. He was a veteran of World War II, and served in the European Theatre. He worked at Newton Welding Supply for over 30 years and also for Nephew?s Garage in Ellenburg Depot. Elmer also owned and operated his own welding shop for many years.
He was a former Highway Superintendent for the Town of Clinton and was a longtime member of the Republican Party. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8793 and the Chateaugay American Legion. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Frances Cook; three daughters and a son-in- law, Mae and John Gregory of Ellenburg Center, Jean Backus of Massena and Judy Dunn of Ellenburg Center; a sister and brother-in-law, Katherine and Howard Whalen of Wassaic, N.Y., five grandchildren, Alan Backus of Michigan, Mike Backus of Ellenburg Center, Rodney Backus of Potsdam, Shane Dunn of Pennsylvania, Shannon Dunn of Mississippi; two great-grandchildren, Paul and Brian Backus of Michigan; his faithful dog "Lucky"; many "adopted" sons and daughters; and several nieces and nephews. A son, Gary; a brother, Edward; and his parents died before him.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral service in Ellenburg Depot. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Ellenburg Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Country or the United Methodist Church of Ellenburg Center.
