Wilfred A. "Fritz" Ayotte of Lowell passed away on January 15, 2005.

He was born in Lowell on Aug. 5, 1922, a son of the late Adelard and Anna (Decelle) Ayotte.

Mr. Ayotte served in the Army during World War II, and attained the rank of sergeant. During his time in the service, he was stationed in Europe and was awarded the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He returned to active duty from 1948 until 1949 as a military escort. After World War II, he traveled to Konnersreuth, Germany, and visited Teresa Neumann, a celebrated German stigmatist and mystic, who during World War II was often visited by American GIs.

Prior to his retirement, he was the co-owner of Ayotte's Spa in the Centralville section of Lowell, and had owned and operated Fritz' restaurant in Pawtucketville, He managed the concession at the former Lowell Drive In. He also was a field representative for Green Thumb and worked at Raytheon Co. in Andover and Lowell.

He was a communicant of the former Ste. Jeanne d'Arc Church, where he served on the Parish Pastoral Council and assisted as Eucharistic minister. He was the founder of the Pawtucketville Business Association, a former member of the Garde Frontenac Drill Team. and the American Legion.

He was the brother of the late Aura Barry and the late George Ayotte, a former Lowell mayor.
