Howard Arnold and Reba Inez Busby were married on the sixth day of December 1938. He was 18 years old and his bride, the daughter of William Monroe "Willie" Busby and the former Ola Mae Brown, was age 16.

By April 1930, the young couple was living on a farm in Sabine Parish, one farm away from his paternal grandparents, George Winfield Arnold and the former Sarah Frances Miller, two farms away from his father and mother, James Hoy Arnold and the former Lottie A. Brown, and three farms away from his aunt, Gertrude "Trudie" Arnold and her husband, the Rev. J. C. Fondren.

On the 26th day of May in 1944, the couple welcomed to the world a daughter who they named Dollis Marie. She was nine years old when her brother, Thomas Glen, was born on October 02, 1953. Both children were born in Louisiana.

At some point in his life, James Howard, who preferred to be called by his middle name, was called to the ministry.

Howard and Reba were preceded in death by their son, Thomas Glen Arnold, who died in Cobb County, Georgia in 1995. Reba passed away six days short of a full year after Thomas Glen's death. Their daughter, Dollis Marie, wife of Thomas Bustamento and the mother of a daughter and a son, died in Harris County, Texas in 2006.

Howard died in 2007 just four days shy of his 87th birthday.
