John D, the fifth child of Daniel and Naomi Castner was born in Somerset County, New Jersey October 17,1774. He came into this country with his father's family in 1805 and continued at home working the farm and taking care of his parents until the time of their death. He never married and he and his brother Adam worked in partnership accumulating a large property. In 1849, they dissolved their partnership and divided there property each brother taking charge of his own estate and in 1850, he left his own home and moved into his nephew's Adam Clark of Torrey where he resided until his death which occurred May 6 1852. He was almost 78 years of age. He was buried in City Hill Cemetery. He distributed the property to his numerous relatives. Upon his death, John D. Castner property was divided among his relative about three hundred dollars in Starkey Seminary and a certain amount, the interest of which is to used to keep the City Hill Cemetery where he is buried in proper condition.
