Henry M. Alpaugh, 82, of Flemington died Wednesday, May 2, in the Hunterdon Medical Center.

He was a custodian with the Readington Township School District, retiring after 21 years.

Born Sept. 12, 1918, in Whitehouse Station, he was a son of the late Walter and Rita Runyon Alpaugh. He had resided in Whitehouse Station until moving to Flemington 26 years ago.

He was a member of the Kirkpatrick Memorial Presbyterian Church of Ringoes.

He served in the Army during World War II, serving with Gen. Patton's Corps.

He was a member of the Pattenburg, N.J., VFW Post and a volunteer at Hunterdon Medical Center for 20 years.

He and his wife, the former Anne M. Smith, were married 24 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Gloria Christensen of Whitehouse and Robin Bartha of Bangor; two stepsons, George Johnson of Kingwood and Edgar Johnson Jr. of Springtown, Pa.; a stepdaughter, Dorothy Lopshire of Ringoes; a brother, Walter of Whitehouse; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Prospect Hill

Cemetery in Flemington. There are no calling hours.

The Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main St., Flemington, is in charge of the arrangements. The family requests memorials to the Hunterdon Medical Center Foundation, 2100 Wescott Drive, Flemington, NJ 08822.
