Carol Elaine Rutland Amagliani, 60, passed away on November 11, 2012, from complications related to Alzheimer's Disease.

Born in Memphis, TN on August 11, 1952, to the late Evelyn (née Matthews) and Charles Rutland, Carol graduated from East High School before attending St. Louis Conservatory of Music. She graduated from the University of Memphis and later enrolled in graduate classes at Belmont University.

Carol taught elementary school music for over twenty years at Evangelical Christian School and also taught individual piano and voice lessons to countless students. Each year she organized and directed numerous recitals, musicals, and concerts. Carol loved classical, gospel, and Motown music but secretly dreamed of performing like Carole King.

She grew up attending First Assembly of God and later regularly filled in as a pianist or organist for churches in the Memphis area, including Hope Presbyterian in its nascence. She was later a member of and briefly served as the minister of music for St. Patrick's Presbyterian in Collierville.

Her favorite hobbies included bicycling, walking, gardening, shopping, driving around in her convertible listening to "Roll with it Baby," and dancing in the kitchen.

Always so quick to smile, and share her infectious laugh, Carol showered her family, friends, and students with compassion and empathy; she was truly a selfless woman.

Her passing leaves a silence where beautiful music had once played. Her first love was always her family.

She leaves behind her loving husband, Michael L. Amagliani of Collierville; her son, Malcolm "Macky" B. Futhey III of Memphis, his wife, Leigh-Taylor White, as well as their son Malcolm Finley Futhey; her daughter, Meredith Elaine Futhey of Knoxville; her step-son, Christopher I. Amagliani of Collierville; and her brothers, Charles Rutland, Cary Rutland, and Alan Rutland, as well as their families.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with interment to follow. Forest Hill East Funeral Home 901-382-1000
