HENRY W. BIERBAUM SUCCUMBS SUDDENLY IN OUTHOUSE
Coroner Pronounces Death Due to Acute Indigestion – Woman Accidentally Discovers Body.
Henry William Bierbaum, a well-known contracting painter, died suddenly of acute indigestion yesterday afternoon in an outhouse at the home of Fred E. Stevens, where he had been engaged in some interior decorating work. Mr. Bierbaum was in the best of health all of yesterday and his death was not known until shortly after 5:00 when Mrs. F. E. Stevens, Jr., found his lifeless body in the shed, where she had gone to feed a dog.
Mr. Bierbaum was last seen by Mrs. Stevens at about 3:15 and he seemed perfectly well at that time. When discovered he was stiff and cold and death evidently had resulted an hour or so before. When Mrs. Stevens made the discovery, she screamed for assistance and several of the neighbors responded. When it was seen that the man was dead, the Coroner, Dr. Ellis Duncan, was called. He pronounced death due to acute indigestion. The body was removed to the Maas undertaking establishment, where it was prepared for burial. Later it was taken to the Bierbaum residence, 1086 East Kentucky Street. No arrangements for the funeral have been made, but it probably will take place Sunday afternoon at the German Reformed Zion church, with burial in Cave Hill cemetery.
Mr. Bierbaum was 56 years of age and was born in Germany. He came to Louisville with his parents when a year old and had lived here ever since. He was a member of the German Zion Reformed church and took a prominent part in the affairs of the German people of the city. For more than half a century he was engaged in the painting business in Louisville.
Besides his wife, who before her marriage was Miss Amelia Klein, the daughter of the Rev. J. H. Klein, for many years a minister in this city, he is survived by two sons, Henry and Albert Bierbaum, of St. Louis; two daughters, Mrs. F. W. Lampe and Miss Edna Bierbaum; four brothers, Louis A., Theodore, Charles F. and B. W. Bierbaum, and two sisters, Mrs. John Schmitt and Mrs. John Meschenderf, all of this city.
