NORFOLK - Arline Addenbrook Commander died May 18, 2008, in Hopewell, Va. She was born in 1919 in Norfolk to the late J. Arthur Addenbrook and Lillian Turner. She was predeceased by her brother, J. Arthur Addenbrook Jr.
Mrs. Commander graduated from Maury High School. In her very active lifetime of service, Arline was president of Women of the Church, First Presbyterian Church, member of Mayor's Commission Citizen's Advisory Committee, president of the Norfolk chapter of the Junior Women's Club, chairman of the Women's Division Civil Defense, chairman of Women's Division Red Cross Drive, chairman and executive board member of Women's Division United Communities Fund, Child and Family Service, Norfolk Civic Ballet and fashion coordinator and model for Rice's department store.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Joseph M. Commander; her son, J. Richard Commander and wife Jeannine of Chester, Va.; two granddaughters, Jennifer Mummert and Alison Knox; and two great-granddaughters.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. in First Presbyterian Church Wednesday by the Rev. James Wood. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Presbyterian Women's Memorial Fund of the First Presbyterian Church, 820 Colonial Ave., Norfolk, VA 23507 or Jamestown Foundation Inc., P.O. Box 3605, Williamsburg, VA 23187-3605. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Cox Funeral Home.
