Clifton Woodruff Killed by Tree at Iatt Lake

A tree uprooted in a storm over Iatt Lake, fatally injured Clifton Chestnut Woodruff, (Note: Name is actually Clifford Odell Woodruff) 28, R.F.D. The tragedy occured about 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. He died at 2:40 o'clock in the home of a nearby farmer.

Clifton and one brother were fishing at the Shaking Grounds, Iatt Lake when the storm came up. They grabbed their fishing equipment and were rushing up a path from the lake when an old rotten tree was uprooted, falling on Clifton and pinning him to the ground.

His brother (Note: this was Cody) finally succeeded in releasing Clifton. He then put the wounded man into the truck and started toward town, but because of Clifton's critical condition he stopped at a farm house. (Note: this was their Aunt Mary's) Clifton died there not long afterwards.

The deceased is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Woodruff, Colfax, RFD; three brothers, Coody (Note: should be Cody) and Guy, Colfax; and Noland (Note: should be Nolan) U.S. Army; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Johnson and Miss Margaret Woodruff, Colfax.
