Lucinda V. Shankland married Stephen Lott Mills, (1847-1906); son of Abraham Mills and Ellen Syndam Lott, in 1888.
Lucinda was the loving wife of Stephen Lott Mills; and dear mother of Samuel L.; Lucinda V.; Elizabeth G.; and Grace V. Mills. The family resided in Ft. Scott, Bourbon County, Kansas.
Lucinda's beloved mother, Martha (Mattingly) Shankland died on May 4th, 1901. Lucinda had cared for her ailing mother during the last year of her life.
Lucinda became a widow in November 1906, when her beloved husband Stephen, died in Colon, Panama.
Two years later, Lucinda's father, Samuel Thompson Shankland, who in later life had become the Superintendent of the Missour/Pacific Railroad, died in 1908, at his home on Eddy Street, Fort Scott, Bourbon County, Kansas. Lucinda and her children had shared the home with Samuel and cared for him until his death.
By 1912, Lucinda and her children relocated to the Township of San Jose, California, where they established residence, on Meridion Road, NW corner of Mc Kinley Avenue.
Lucinda died in March of 1924. She was interred at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery, 490 Lincoln Street, Santa Clara, California, on 16 March 1924. Her grave and those of her children (Samuel, Virginia, and Elizabeth) are located in Block 14 OLD; Lot 18A.
