Urban Michael Foster was born July 29, 1894, in Chicago, the oldest son of John P. Foerster (1866–1915) and Rose K. Schmitz Foerster (1871 – 1950). He was named for his maternal grandfather, Urban Schmitz (1838-1896). He married Henrietta K. Reis on June 9, 1920, in Evanston, Illinois. They had two sons. He died November 19, 1958, and is buried at St. Henry Cemetery in Chicago (despite what it says in his obituary).
