The Bloomfield Institute - (according to Shaw's History New Jersey 1884) was established by the Rev Ebenezer Seymour after his retirement from the Church. Ebenezer was said to be "sunny in disposition, genial in manner, and unfailingly kind of heart". He was fond of music and an enthusiast of natural sciences. Ebenezer established a "Mineral Exchange" in New York, his first shop being at 52 Beekman Street. Part of Ebenezers Mineral Collection was bought by the Gettysberg Mineral College of Pennsylvania.
