Ward graduated from Olathe High School in 1943. His University of Minnesota education was interrupted by World War II. He enlisted in the US Army on June 8, 1943 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He was wounded while fighting in the European Theater and received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star were awarded for his service.
Attended Finley Engineering College and completed his Electrical Engineering Degree. He worked for Carter Waters for more than 40 years as Director of Purchasing.
He helped found the Kansas City, Kansas branch of the DAV and was an active member of the KC Purchasing Management Association.
His wife, Joan, preceded him in death. She died in May 1987.
He supported the local sports teams and had played sports most of his life. He was an excellent left-handed pitcher in the men's fast pitch softball leagues. He sang at many events including a KC Royals game. One of his greatest passions was music.
Ward was a member of the Kansas City Men's Metro Chorus and St. Mark's Methodist Church for over 50 years and a staunch member of their Choir.
He died from complications resulting from Multiple Systems Atrophy(MSA)
