Baca, Genevieve "Jean" (nee: Wiechec) Age 89, passed away peacefully, Wednesday October 31, 2012, surrounded by her loving family.
Genevieve attended St. Thaddeus Grade School and Joliet Central High School. After High School she worked at Louis Joliet Hotel. In 1942, upon meeting the love of her life, the late John J. Baca, they married and bought a home on Landau Ave., Joliet. In 1948 Genevieve and her husband owned and operated Baca's Grocery on Ohio St., across from Parks School, before moving to Lockport. Member of St. Joseph Church, Lockport, where she was very active with Daughter of Isabella and the PTA, Kelvin Grove PTA and Band Parents as well as Lockport Township High School Band Parents. Jean was an Election Day judge, very active in her community, volunteered countless hours with the American Cancer Society and March of Dimes, but most of all, family was always her #1 priority.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Baca family, which will be donated to the Tammy Smunt (Genevieve's cherished granddaughter) Kidney Fund, would be appreciated.
Preceded in death by her husband, John J. Baca in 2005; sisters, Frances Sobwick, Ann Tucker, Rose Miller and Emily Bilecki; brothers, Joseph, Frank and John Wiechec.
Survived by her devoted children whom she was the most loving and supportive to, Mary (Andrew) Kelly, Helen (Frank) Smunt, Richard, Thomas (Barbara), Robert (Jodi) and Deborah Massey; grandmother of 14; great-grandmother of eight and great-great-grandmother of two.
Funeral services will be held Monday, 9:30 am from the O'Neil Funeral Home Chapel, 1105 E. 9th St. (159th St.), Lockport to St. Joseph Church, Lockport for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am.
Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
Visitation Sunday, November 4, 2012, 4:00pm to 7:00pm.
