Death Takes Firm Leader

Ralph Ballantyne Stratford, a managing partner of Haskins and Sells accounting firm, died Tuesday after several months illness. His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Portland Stake Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Born Sept. 21, 1904 at Logan, Utah, Mr. Stratford attended the University of Idaho and began employment as an accountant in 1923. He served successively in several firms and was a partner at Haskins and Sells since 1954.

A resident of 755 NW Powhatan Terr., Mr. Stratford was a past president of the Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants and member of several CPA associations.

He was also a past director of the United Fund, past chairman of a citizens committee to improve welfare services in metropolitan Portland, director of the Portland Chamber of Commerce and Associated Oregon Industries, member of Salvation Army Portland advisory board and board chairman of the University of Portland’s school of business associates.

Mr. Stratford was also a member of the following clubs: Optimists, Arlington, Aero, Waverley Country, Rotary and the Rogue Valley Country Club of Medford.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Survivors include the widow, Calysta; one son Ralph Ballantyne II; four brothers, Jesse G. of San Bernadino, Calif., Rae P. of Pocatello, Idaho, Clyde B. of Brigham City, Utah and Richard C. of Los Angeles; four sisters, Mrs. Lee M. Wendelboe of Salt Lake City, Mrs. Harold Humphreys of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Mrs. Ruby Bagley and Mrs. Reba Forgeon, both of Pocatello; and three grandchildren.
