Notes about Emma Rosa Greene: by Bob McCollum
Rosa Emma Greene Elmore, known locally as Emma Rose, nicknamed "Emmy" or "Emmy Jane" was a grand lady, who suffered fools badly. She and "Uncle Bob" were religious people who lived a quiet life with high principles. She was industrious, thrifty, and a fast and careful worker.
When "Emmy" died, her daughter Opal furnished the information for the death certificate. She listed her as "Emma Rose", which is the name she had gone by for years. I, (Opal's son) firmly believe that my mother never knew the name had been switched and modified. I found out when I obtained a copy of their marriage license application. Her mother, Susan Cannon Greene, in her permission for the marriage, listed her daughter as "Rosa Emma" Her new husband listed her as "Rosey", She, herself, wrote her name as "Rosey Green", then crossed out the Green, and entered "Rosey Elmore". Knowing my grandmother, I am quite sure she despised the name "Rosey", so, she reversed the names, changed the "a" to "e" on the Rosa, so it came out Emma Rose. The "Rose" was so seldom used that I never heard anyone use it when talking to her.
