John was born in Riesel, Texas, to the late Philip Nolan and Mirtie Mae Harrell Bickerstaff. He was an honest, strong, hard-working man who loved his family. He was proud of his military service in World War II. On May 22, 1948, John married Gertrude Ballinger.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertie; three brothers; and a sister.
Survivors include sons, John "Bubba" T. Bickerstaff, Jr. and wife, Betty, of Bloomington, Ill., and Ron Bickerstaff, of Austin; daughter, Cindy Norcross and husband, Doug, of Hewitt; grandchildren, Mark, Mike, and Matt Bickerstaff, Rosemary and Rachel Bickerstaff, and Donnie Norcross; great-grandchildren, Sydney, Kahlie, Savannah and Phoenix Harley Bickerstaff; brother, Eugene Bickerstaff, of Tomball; sisters, Mary Underhill, of Raleigh, N.C., and Louise Noah, of Comfort; other relatives and many friends.
