Hattie Reva Beamer Landis Longtime Rivermont School Teacher Was Presbyterian Church Member

Hattie Reva Beamer Landis, 91, formerly of Alleghany Ave., Covington, Virginia, died Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at the Woodlands in Clifton Forge.

She was born April 17, 1921 in Carroll County, a daughter of the late Posey B. and Annie Marshall Beamer.

Mrs. Landis graduated from Radford University with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education. She retired as a teacher with the Covington School System having taught for over thirty years at the former Rivermont Elementary School.

She was a long time member of the McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church and Circle #4. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary Post # 1033.

She enjoyed sewing, crafting as well as traveling with her sisters. Known for her keen sense of humor and love of the color purple, she never met a stranger.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arlee Landis in 1990; five sisters, Iva Lou Gillespie, Pauline Barger, Goldie Rakes, Virginia Spraker, her twin sister, Mattie Landis and two brothers, Clarence Beamer and Virgil Beamer.

Surviving are two sisters, Pearl Davis of Covington and Irene Melton of Greensboro, NC; a host of nieces and nephews including a special niece, Carole Ann Bowyer of Greenwood, SC, and her family and special nurses and aides at the Woodlands.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church on Friday.

The funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, November 23, 2012 in the McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Virgil Woodie officiating.

The interment will be made in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
