An Educator

Reunited with her husband of almost 67 years, Winona Buxton Hirschi, married Lewis Edwin Hirschi in Bozeman, Montana, May 18, 1934. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1935. Born in Driggs, Idaho to Stillman Buxton and Lucinda Van Leuven Buxton, she was student body vice president of Teton High School. A graduate of Utah State University in Home Econimics, Class of 1932, she was a high school educator in Idaho and a elementary teacher in Salt Lake City and Tucson, Arizona. She enjoyed teaching 5th graders and watching them learn.

Winona and Edwin built several homes with their own hands, including their American Fork home. Serving a full-time mission in the Swiss Temple, they continued temple work in the Provo Temple. A devote wife and mother, she served in many LDS church positions, especially in the Young Womens organization.

Surviving family members include children: Sharen (Wayne) Smith, Mona (George) Clark, Jay (Alyce) Hirschi and Marveen Carter) Dickey; 11 devoted grandchildren, Lisa Hodson, Steven Smith, Sherry Hardy, Mike Smith, Holly Nelson, Alan Daniels, Cynthia Robinson, Krysta Pemberton, Matt Dickey, Ben Dickey and Abby Merchant; 33 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elda Wood.
