MOLINE - Sylvester "Cy" Albracht of Moline passed away Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at Good Samaritan, Geneseo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, November 9, at Sacred Heart CatholicChurch, Moline. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Rafferty Funeral Home, 2111 1st St. A, Moline. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline, with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 246, Moline.

Sylvester was born July 30, 1915, in Lindsay, Nebraska, the son of Henry and Gertrude Albracht, one of 15 brothers and sisters. At a young age Sylvester learned the value of hard work and carried it with pride throughout his life. As a World War II soldier, he was one of the brave men who risked their lives on D-Day, landing on Utah Beach and was later awarded a Purple Heart.

After the war he met Evelyn Depauw at a dance in Humphrey, Nebraska, where the great Guy Lombardo and his orchestra were playing. The girl of his dreams and the man of her's were married on May 4, 1946, and were inseparable until her death on April 23, 2010.

Sylvester was the former owner and operator of Cy's Uptown Body Shop in Moline and will be remembered as a kind and gentle man who loved his family, the St. Louis Cardinals and a good laugh.

Survivors include his son, Jim (Meredith) Albracht, Bettendorf; daughter, Janie Albracht, Davenport; and grandchildren, Lauren, Marissa and Madison.
