Sister Viola Marie (Marigold Kathrine) Byrnes CSC
April 7, 1932 - Nov. 5, 2012

NOTRE DAME - Sister Viola Marie was born in Logan, Utah, to the late Michael Mary Byrnes and Violet Mary Eliason Byrnes. Sister is survived by her sisters, Sister Mary Byrnes, CSC, Helen Fears, Rose Byrnes and Blossom Hasselbring; and brothers, Robert, Patrick, Jerry and Joseph. She was predeceased by Michael, Thomas and David.

Sister is remembered by her many nieces and nephews. Sister loved teaching and taught elementary classes for 24 years in the Western States: CA, WA, ID, UT, and 5 years in Texas. She also was busy in Parish Ministry in Texas. Sister spent some time in Indiana on assignment and then retired to Saint Mary's Convent in 2001. Sister especially loved and supported St. Mary's College sports. Sister was active in the Ministry of Prayer until her death. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Holy Cross, Ministry with the Poor, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, Indiana 46556, or on-line at www.cscsisters.org. Reception of the Body and wake service is today, November 7, 2012, 4:30 PM, in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, IN. Funeral service is Thursday, November 8, 2012, 11:00 a.m., in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, IN. The Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
