James Gladus Parker, called Gladus, was born 4 February 1899 in Warren County, KY, to Levi W. and Ella "Ellie" (Carver) Parker. The family was still in Warren County, KY in 1900, but by 1910 they had moved to Otto, Santa Fe County, NM. By 1920 Gladus' father had died and they were living in the Amy Community in Lincoln County, CO, near the Clark homestead.

Gladus married Edith Irene Clark 12 May 1930 in Hugo, CO. Edith was born 8 August 1912 in Farmington, IL and died 21 March 2000 in Longmont, CO, after a serious illness.

Gladus and Edith farmed in Lincoln County for a while then moved to Rifle, CO to farm. They moved back to CO and lived in south Denver as landlords of a triplex on South Sherman Street.
