TERRE HAUTE — Charles E. "Chuck" Howard, 81, of Terre Haute, passed away at 9:12 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, in the Union Hospital's emergency room. He retired from Conrail Railroad after many years of service. He was born May 30, 1931, in West Terre Haute, to Frank Howard and Lena Fore Howard.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Cathryn Rose "Rosie" Brown Howard, whom he married Aug. 1, 1959; a daughter, Mary Lou Roberts Williams and husband Dave of Terre Haute; three sons and daughters-in-law, Robin and Margaret Ann Roberts of West Terre Haute, Randy and Robin Howard of Terre Haute, and Daniel and Sherri Howard of Frankfort; sisters-in-law, Mary Supp, Donna Jean Bryant, Dorothy Howard, and Virginia Howard; grandchildren, Kevin Williams (Shawn), Scott Roberts (Janine), David Lee Williams (Cathy), Sarah Roberts Norton (Dane), Jennifer Williams Cohee (David), Devin Howard (Jamie), Chelsea Howard, Kathryn Howard, Blake Howard, Mary Roberts, and Daniel Howard; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Frenda Blangio, Wendell Howard, Tom Howard, James Howard, Mary Ramsey, Betty Lamb, and Mildred Barnhart.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he loved fishing and coon hunting with his brothers.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. Third St., West Terre Haute, with the Rev. Jeremy Lamb officiating. Burial will be in Bethesda Memorial Park. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Thursday. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Cure for Breast Cancer of the Wabash Valley, with envelopes available in the funeral home.
