Abelino Leon Carbajal Sr., 87, of Prescott Valley, Ariz., passed away surrounded by his devoted family on Nov. 2, 2012, in Prescott, due to complications from a stroke.
Proud father of seven, he is survived by his wife of 70 years, Maria Carbajal; sister, Maria Villacana; daughter, Jovita (Randy) Cordova of Casa Grande, Ariz.; son, Braulio Carbajal of Bagdad, Ariz.; daughter, Estella (Henry) Acosta of Peoria, Ariz.; son, Ben (Elena) Carbajal of Tucson, Ariz.; son, Abelino (Vickie) Carbajal of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; son, Rigo Carbajal of Glendale, Ariz.; and son, Jaime (Christine) Carbajal of The Woodlands, Texas; as well as grandchildren, Ynez, Angelica, Andrea, Javier, Rene, Mario, Maria, Abelino Jr., Martha, Christina, Vincent, Paola, Alicia, Brenda, Nadia, Matthew, Nathan, Grace and Gabriel. He leaves behind great grandchildren, Victoria, Jayden, Diego, Vincent Jr., Trinity, Kaleb, Ava, Seth, Andrea and Navi.
Abelino was preceded in death by his mother, Leonila, and father, Braulio, as well as his brothers, Salud and Sabino and his dear grandson, Armando Acosta.
Born on Aug. 22, 1925, in the small ranching community of Moroleon, Guanajuato, Mexico, Abelino was proud to be a part of the WWII Braceros program, which kept the American agriculture industry successful during war times. Abelino moved to the mining community of Bagdad, Ariz., in 1955, bringing his wife and five children to join him several years later. Mr. Carbajal retired from Cypress Minerals Company in 1988 after 33 years of loyal service. He and his wife moved to Prescott Valley, where they enjoyed local community activities and were active members of St. Germaine's Catholic Church.
Abelino will be profoundly missed. The lessons he taught us about integrity, hard work, kindness to strangers, devotion to family and the importance of faith are timeless. His beautiful smile and strong support will be missed every day just as much as his delicious meals and heartfelt benedictions before each journey. Mr. Abelino Carbajal was one of the finest men to ever walk this earth. His purity of heart and dignity of conduct are models for all.
A rosary vigil and viewing is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, with a funeral Mass and reception at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at St. Germaine Catholic Church in Prescott Valley, Ariz.
Burial will take place at 12:30 p.m. at Heritage Memorial Park Cemetery in Dewey, Ariz.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Carbajal Mining Scholarship, P.O. Box 427, Bagdad, AZ 86321; Attention: Lee Metheny - Bagdad High School.
