Funeral Rites Held For George Wilson

George Junius Wilson, 68, 3402 South 800 West, South Davis Stake Patriarch for 11 years and a former bishop died Thursday, Sept. 18, at his home after a lingering illness.

FORMER bishop of the Orchard Ward, Mr. Wilson served in the presidency and Sunday School superintendency of the South Davis Stake.

He was an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake LDS Temple for 25 years and was set apart by Pres. David O. McKay.

HE SERVED in the Northwestern States and Salt Lake Stake missions.

Mr. Wilson was a life member of tthe Salt Lake Advertising club; worked 37 years for Safeway Stores, 25 years as advertising manager; was a charter member of the South Davis Lions club and a former member of Sons of Utah Pioneers.

HE WAS born August 26, 1901, in Hillsdale, Garfield County, a son of James William and Lydia Annie Johnson Wilson. He married Echo Denning on August 22, 1938, in the Salt Lake Temple.

Survivors include his widow; sons and daughter, George Richard, Salt Lake City; Val, North Salt Lake; Lauralee, Bountiful; (A daughter preceded him in death) three grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Mrs. D. H. (Eva) Heaton, Mrs. Arthur (Ann) Glover, both of Salt Lake City; Mrs. C. Angus (Myrtle) Baldwin, Cannonville, Garfield County; Joel A., North Salt Lake

MEMORIAL services were conducted Monday, Sept. 22 at the Orchard Second Ward Chapel with Bishop G. Victor Clarkson, officiating.

Family prayer by Joel A. Wilson. Prelude music and postlude music by Mary Alice Eakle; invocation by Pres. C. Wallace Rollins; remarks and obituary by Bishop G. Victor Clarkson.

VOCAL SOLO “”You’ll Never Walk Alone” by Larry Memmott, accompanied by Mary Alice Eakle; tribute in behalf of Safeway Stores, Inc., Bishop W. Sterling Evans. Speaker Paul F. Royall; vocal solo by Larry Memmott, “I Walked Today Where Jesus Walked”; speaker Heber C. Moulton; speaker, Fauntleroy Hunsaker; male quartet consisting of Elwin Jensen, Alma Summerhays, James Lane and Wallace Christensen, sang “Abide With Me Tis Eventide”; benediction by Robert G. Prout.

Pallbearers all nephews, Keith Heaton, Priel Baldwin, William Wilson, Gordon Wheeler, Jon Prout, Gary Denning. Honorary pallbearers, former associates in ward bishoprics, member of the South Davis Stake High Priests Quorum.

INTERMENT in the Bountiful Memorial Park with dedication of the grave by Daniel H. Heaton, patriarch.
