She was born January 9, 1911, in Grove Springs, Missouri. She was one of eight children born to Jesse and Myrtle Lowery.
In 1928, she married Troy Bledsoe. Times were hard in Missouri and they had some family in Idaho so they started moving back and forth between Idaho and Missouri, a situation that continued for several years. During the next six years, Bill and Bonnie were born. By the time they moved to Idaho for the last time, Bill and Bonnie were teenagers and they had added 4 year old Dean and 9 month old Donna to the family. They purchased a farm near Marsing and settled down.
In 1972, they moved to Arizona where both of her daughters lived with their families. She sold Avon and took care of babies in a daycare. She attended a church where many of the women dressed up more than she was familiar with in Idaho. They wore lovely hats and dresses and she made that style her own. Her last job was taking care of Lisa and Bucky Martin's baby girls, Anna and Rachel.
Jewell officially retired at 85 years old when she moved back to Idaho. From 86 to 94 years old, she spent Monday mornings during the summer in Dean and Kathy's garden. She loved to "make garden" and "fight weeds" and then sit on the patio and drink sweet tea.
Jewell enjoyed good country gospel music and loved to hear her son, Bill, play the guitar and sing. When he moved back to Idaho several years ago, she was thrilled and rarely missed one of his performances.
Jewell loved to go shopping for clothes and hats. The highlight of her week was to dress up in beautiful dresses and one of her many hats and attend church. She would decide what to wear the next Sunday and then hang the dress on the outside of the closet door so that she could look at it all week.
She loved to go to church, run around town, shop, cook, can fruits and vegetables, make pickles and jams, decorate and garden. Her strong determination to continue doing the things she enjoyed surely added years to Jewell's life.
She encouraged Celebrate Life to start a Cowboy Church and was a strong proponent. She rarely missed one. Jewell Bledsoe was an encourager and an inspiration to many.
Jewell is survived by her children: Bill Bledsoe, Bonnie (Howard) LeRoy, Dean (Kathy) Bledsoe and Donna (Ron) Rees; grandchildren: Rex, Angie, D.R., Holli and Nate; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Jewell's Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 9, at Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell, Idaho.
