She is survived by her husband, Garland Alford; son, Garland "Butch" Alford, Jr.; son, Charles Alford and his wife, Kathy Alford; daughter, Karen Broussard and her husband, Greg Broussard; son, Vince Alford; daughter, Patricia Mailes and her husband, Norman Mailes; thirteen grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, two great grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren. She was expecting her first great great granddaughter.
Doris Alford was a registered nurse who retired from Howard Memorial Hospital in Biloxi where she worked in the newborn nursery. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Biloxi and the Golden Age Travel Group. She spent her free time reading, gardening and helping others. In 1995 her neighbors nominated her for the Sun Herald's Good Neighbor Award. They referred to her as the "Guardian Angel" of Bayly Drive because "She was always there when you need her".
Funeral services will be Thursday, January 15, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Biloxi where friends may visit one hour before service time. Burial will follow in Southern Memorial Park.
