Stephen Gerard Fishbeck was born on November 15, 1840, in Michigan, to Richard and Nancy (Quackenbush) Fishbeck.
His wife Jennie was born in Canada.
Their son, Charles Fishbeck, was born about 1871 in Michigan.
Stephen was a shoemaker by trade which he learned from his father, Richard Fishbeck, who opened the first shoestore in Howell about 1836. Richard made shoes until his death in 1874, at which time the business passed on to his sons, Stephen and Leonard, who continued to operate under the business name of "Fishbeck Brothers". Stephen also served as a constable in Howell.
Stephen died in a fire on December 12, 1919, in Howell, at the age of 79.
