Several members of the Atwell family are buried in lot 74 of the east section of Methodist Protestant Cemetery. Because the congregation disbanded, little maintenance takes place in the cemetery.
According to Wesley Pippenger's excellent Tombstone Inscriptions of Alexandria, Virginia, vol 2, "William Atwell purchased [lot 74] on 10 Jan 1852." It seems most likely that William E Atwell was the purchaser.
Those buried in the lot are "Atwell, Elizabeth; Atwell, John R.; Atwell, Mary E.; Atwell, Mary Jane; Atwell, William E., Atwell, William R."
