Leona C. Habel, 79, of Charlevoix, passed away Monday, March 12, 2012, at Boulder Park Terrace Nursing Home in Charlevoix. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 17, at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix. The Rev. Rap Posnik of the Norwood United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery in Charlevoix. Leona was born in Charlevoix on Nov. 14, 1932, the daughter of Charles and Emma (Brown) Warner. On Jan. 14, 1949, she married William F. Habel in Charlevoix.

Leona C. Habel, 79, of Charlevoix, passed away Monday, March 12, 2012, at Boulder Park Terrace Nursing Home in Charlevoix.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 17, at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix. The Rev. Rap Posnik of the Norwood United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery in Charlevoix.

Leona was born in Charlevoix on Nov. 14, 1932, the daughter of Charles and Emma (Brown) Warner.

On Jan. 14, 1949, she married William F. Habel in Charlevoix. They made their home in Scottville for a few years where she worked at the Stokley-VanCamp canning factory. After they returned to Charlevoix, Leona worked as a housekeeper for private residences. As a senior citizen, Leona earned her G.E.D. in 1988.

She was a member of the Norwood United Methodist Church and served as its treasurer, a member of the Barnard Grange, the Charlevoix Senior Citizens and the Senior Bowling League. She loved music and playing piano, and often times joined in the Warner family band, and her brother's band, Jasper and the Tag-A-Longs.

Leona is survived by her sons, Bill (Jean) Habel, James (Tosca) Habel, all of Charlevoix, Allen (Penny) Habel of Petoskey; daughter, Sandra (Mike Wilson) Santure of Charlevoix; grandchildren, Billie Jean, Willie (Becky), Tony (Lori), Joshua (Charmain), Spring (Rich), Brook, Allen, Tyler (Rachel); 14 great-grandchildren; fiance, Bob Black of Norwood; sisters, Lucille Anderson and Irene Nadeau.

Leona's husband, Bill, preceded her in death in 1990. She is also preceded in death by her brothers, Homer, Burton, Dixon, Harrison, Jasper, Harley, Everett, Doyle; and sister, Lyde Mae.
