Acie O'Neil "Neil" Caraway, 58, died September 11, 1999 at Morristown, Tennessee. He was born June 20, 1941 in Marion, McDowell County, North Carolina and was the son of Acie Leroy Caraway and Premier Atkins Caraway.

Neil graduated from Western Carolina University with a degree in Business Administration. His first management position was store manager at Roses store in Marion, NC. He was transferred to the same position at the Roses store in Morristown, Tennessee in 1968.

He was the Education Director for the Morristown School of Business, where he met his wife, Linda. Neil and Linda bought the School in 1970, and Linda remained its Education Director until it closed in 1996. Meanwhile, Neil became the Director of the Center for Vocational Rehabilitation in Morristown in 1971.

He was appointed by the mayor to become the Executive Director of the Morristown Housing Authority in 1987. He remained in this position until his death in 1999. Neil also served as the president and in several other leadership positions in TARHA, the Tennessee Association of Regional Housing Authorities.

He also was very active in the Morristown civic community, serving as president of the Lions' Club and the Sertoma Club, as chairman of Girls' and Boys' Inc., on the board of the local MATS shelter and as an active volunteer for Special Olympics and the Keep America Beautiful program.

Neil was preceded in death by a sister, Luzette Caraway Young.

In addition to his parents, Neil was survived by his wife, Linda; two daughters, Stacie and Angie; three grandchildren, Katie, Colby and Aiden O'Neil; and a sister, Margaret.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 14, 1999 at Mayes Mortuary, Morristown.
