Former Well Known Ellington Woman Died At Home of Niece In Jamestown On Thanksgiving Day.
Miss Helen Amelia Bates, a former well known resident and member of one of the oldest and best known families in the town of Ellington, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 1916, at the home of her niece, Mrs. Harley F.Johnson, 620 Newland avenue, Jamestown. Miss Bates resided with her brother, L. A. Bates, in Ellington until the first of July this year, when failing health resulted in the removal of both Mr. Bates and his sister to Jamestown to reside with their niece. Her health has steadily failed since that date, until death ensued as stated, on Thanksgiving day. The only near surviving relatives the brother, L. A. Bates. There are several nephews and nieces surviving. Miss Bates was born in the town of Ellington on Jan. 11, 1847. The funeral service will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harley F. Johnson, 620 Newland avenue, Saturday at 11 o'clock. Following this service the remains will be taken to Ellington, for interment there at two o'clock.
