Born and raised in Mendota, IL, son of German pioneer immigrants Erhard Schuetz (1848 - 1908) and Margaret Faber Schuetz (1851 - 1930) who had both come to America with their families as infants. Predeceased by his older sister Katherine (1874 - 1956), and younger sister Clara (1877 - 1950) (both of whom lived their entire lives In Mendota), as well as a younger brother, Oscar, who died in infancy in 1881. Survived by a younger brother, Albert Jacob Sheets (1884 - 1963) who lived briefly in Chicago before moving to Montana and who died just a month after Simon.
Simon left Mendota for Chicago at a young age, remaining there for the rest of his life, working as a grocery buyer, including over 25 years for Reid Murdoch Company, before becoming a Christian Science practitioner in later life.
Married Adele Marie Rahlfs (1878 - 1960) of Chicago on February 14, 1905. They had one son, Ralph Erhardt Schuetz (1907 - 1964).
Survived by his son, Ralph and daughter-in-law Elsa Anderson Schuetz (1910-2004) of Evanston, IL. Three grandchildren: Martha Schuetz Browne Bjorkman (1939 -), Ralph Erhardt Schuetz Jr. (1942 -), and Gary Anderson Schuetz (1945 - 2017). Laid to rest in the Rahlfs family plot in Graceland Cemetery, Chicago.
