Ellicott City, Md., October 15. - Arthur L. Gerwig, aged 28 years, one of the best-known amateur baseball players in the state and who was taken down South by Jack Dunn for a trial with the Orioles several seasons ago, died at his home at Pine Orchard, Howard county, at 2 o'clock this morning from pneumonia, brought on by the flu, after an illness of but five days.
He is survived by his widow and one son (Charles L.), his mother (Mrs. Barbara Gerwig) and three sisters, all of Howard county. Gerwig at the time of his death was Democratic election judge for hte Second district of his county. He had many friends and was engaged in the merchandise business with his mother at Pine Orchard.
The funeral will take place on Sunday afternoon. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Ellicott City.
