Henning - Aplin

The only biological relative in this group was Lavina Taylor Henning Aplin, mother of William Henning, whose second or third husband was Godfrey Aplin. William was Lavina's only child by husband Matthew Hening. She had eight children with Aplin. The Aplin name is variably spelled. The debate about the number of marriages for Lavina is because she was identified in her Hening marriage license as MRS. Lavina Taylor. Taylor was her known maiden name. Some say there was a first husband before Hening, others say it was customary at the time to assign "Mrs." even to unmarried women once they reached marriageable age. No record of a first marriage before Hening has been found so far.
